Back online… barely
I recently decided to go through the horribly slow, tedious, and upseting task of changing my ISP.
My old one just wasn’t cutting it, at all. A few months back, before the end of the year, I got a “supposed” upgrade from a 2 Megabit line to a 4 Megabit one but my download speed didn’t really gain any noticeable increase and my Torrent and P2P speeds dropped from 100Kbs+ to 20Kbs MAX.
So I decided to change to another ISP, that has better speeds and faster access times than my old one. The only problem, is that the person who made the ISP change for me in it’s store made a mistake and ordered a 256kilobite connection. That means that my downloads go 25Kbs max… so now I have to wait even longer for them to change it to the 8 Megabit connection I originally requested.
Oh, and I forgot to tell you how long this process took… I made the request last Wednesday to change my ISP, the internet only became available today, and now it will take up to 10 working days to change it once again.
And the Portuguese still wonder why our country is going through a crysis…
Oh, and the ironic thing about all of this is that even with a really slow connection (in terms of limits), I still download faster in P2P than with my old ISP…

Rather unbelievable how they could mistake a 8mbit connection with a 256kbit one. I would be rather speechless if they made the same mistake with Welsper. This decline in performance from Oni is a recent deal, or has it always been like this? Very ironic how you can download better with a 256kbit connection than with your 4mbit one… The problem with my connection is its inconsistency; Mostly during the day, the speeds can become unbearable at times… but that is somewhat compensated by the times when I can actually reach my top speed (>1MByte/second).
10 working days to change ISPs isn’t really that bad, it takes 10-15 here in Australia if you’re not “ISP churning”.
This decline in performance was recent. There was nothing wrong with the connection itself, as long as you didn’t use any P2P programs or play online games. If you do any of those two things, Oninet is not the best ISP to have at the moment.
Since I live in Europe I’ll compare it to somewhere closer. An acquaintance of mine, from Sweden, recently changed his ISP also. It took him 5 hours to do so.
